Common Beginner Mistakes

Mistake 1: Canvas Too Large

Problem: Started with a 256×256 canvas and it's overwhelming.

Solution: Start with smaller canvases (16×16, 32×32). You can always scale up later!

Mistake 2: Too Many Characters

Problem: Using lots of different characters makes art look messy.

Solution: Stick to 3-5 characters max. Simple is often better in ASCII/pixel art.

Mistake 3: Forgetting to Save

Problem: Worried about losing work.

Solution: Don't worry! Auto-save has you covered. But pressing Cmd+S / Ctrl+S gives peace of mind.

Mistake 4: Wrong Tool Selected

Problem: Clicking doesn't draw anything or draws unexpected shapes.

Solution: Check which tool is selected (highlighted in the toolbar). Press B to quickly switch to the Pencil tool.
