Eraser Tool
The Eraser tool lets you remove content from the canvas by clearing cells to empty space. It shares the same brush system as the Brush tool, giving you precise control over what you erase.
Quick access: Press E to activate the Eraser tool from anywhere in the application.
Basic Usage
Select the Eraser Tool
Click the eraser icon in the toolbar or press E. The cursor will change to indicate you're in eraser mode.
Adjust Eraser Size
Use the Brush Controls panel to adjust the eraser size and shape.
Erase on the Canvas
Click and drag on the canvas to erase. Release the mouse button to complete your stroke.
Eraser Settings
The Eraser tool uses the same Brush Controls as the Brush tool:
Eraser Size (1-20)
Control how many cells are erased with each stroke:

| 1 | Single cell | Precise corrections |
| 3-5 | Small area | Detail cleanup |
| 7-10 | Medium area | General erasing |
| 15-20 | Large area | Large area clearing |
Use [ and ] to quickly decrease or increase eraser size.
Eraser Shapes
Choose from four eraser shapes:
- Circle: Rounded eraser pattern
- Square: Block-shaped eraser
- Horizontal Line: Horizontal swipe pattern
- Vertical Line: Vertical swipe pattern
Hover Preview
When hovering over the canvas, a purple outline shows exactly which cells will be erased.
What Gets Erased
By default, the eraser clears cells to empty space:
- Character is set to empty/space
- Foreground color is cleared
- Background color is cleared
The eraser completely removes cell content. Use Undo (Cmd/Ctrl + Z) if you accidentally erase something.
Tips & Techniques
Precision Erasing
For precise corrections:
- Zoom in on the area
- Use size 1 eraser
- Click individual cells rather than dragging
Temporary Eraser from Brush
While using the Brush tool, hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) to temporarily switch to eraser mode without changing tools.
Creating Cutouts
Use the eraser with larger sizes to create transparent areas or cutouts in your artwork.
