Common Settings
Size Multiplier
Scale your export for different uses:
| Multiplier | Use Case |
|---|---|
| 1x | Original size, smallest file |
| 2x | Social media, standard sharing |
| 3x | High-quality prints |
| 4x | Maximum quality, large displays |
Higher multipliers increase file size but provide better quality when scaling up.
Include Grid
- Enabled: Shows the grid lines in export
- Disabled: Clean export without grid
Most users disable grid for final exports.
PNG Export
PNG (Portable Network Graphics) is the recommended format for most uses.
PNG Features
- Lossless compression - No quality loss
- Transparency support - Transparent backgrounds
- Wide compatibility - Works everywhere
PNG Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Size Multiplier | 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x |
| Include Grid | Show/hide grid lines |
When to Use PNG
✅ Ideal for:
- Sharing on social media
- Embedding in documents
- Web graphics
- When you need transparency
- Preserving exact colors
JPEG Export
JPEG offers smaller file sizes with some quality trade-off.
JPEG Features
- Lossy compression - Smaller files
- No transparency - Background always solid
- Adjustable quality - Balance size vs. quality
JPEG Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Size Multiplier | 1x, 2x, 3x, or 4x |
| Include Grid | Show/hide grid lines |
| Quality | 1-100 (higher = better quality, larger file) |
Quality Guidelines
| Quality | File Size | Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| 60-70 | Small | Web thumbnails |
| 80-85 | Medium | General sharing |
| 90-95 | Large | High-quality output |
| 100 | Largest | Maximum quality |
JPEG doesn't support transparency. Transparent areas will become white.
SVG Export
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) exports as vector format that scales infinitely.
SVGs exported from ASCII Motion are compatible with Figma and Adobe Illustrator, with editable text and correct font mapping.
SVG Features
- Vector format - Scales to any size
- Editable - Can be modified in vector editors
- Web-native - Works directly in browsers
- Text searchable - Characters remain as text (by default)
SVG Settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Include Grid | Show/hide grid lines |
| Include Background | Include canvas background color |
| Text as Outlines | Convert text to vector paths |
| Prettify | Format SVG code for readability |
Text as Outlines
Keep characters as text elements
Pros:
- Smaller file size
- Searchable text
- Easier to edit
Cons:
- Requires font to be installed
- May render differently on other systems
When to Use SVG
✅ Ideal for:
- Web graphics
- Print at any size
- Logo and icon use
- When you need infinite scaling
- Professional design work
❌ Less suitable for:
- Complex/large artworks (file size)
- Social media sharing
- Non-technical users
Workflow Examples
For Social Media
For Print
For Web Development
Tips
- PNG is safest for general use
- Use 2x minimum for sharp display on retina screens
- SVG + Text as Outlines ensures consistent rendering
- JPEG only when file size is critical and you don't need transparency
- Test your export before sharing widely
